SKI in the ALPS on the road of Tour de France !

Hi everybody, 

Quelle semaine !

What a week !

Tout d'abord, avec mes 2 enfants, nous avons voyagé sur 2 jours
(Eurostar Londres-Paris-Gare du Nord)
puis métro jusqu'à Quai de la Râpée (ligne 5 direct)  où un Hotel nous était réservé. 

J'en profite pour donner les coordonnées, car il était confortable, très propre à un tarif modéré (119 €) pour une chambre à 3 lits sans le petit-déjeuner.
 Avons opté pour la "Brioche dorée" de la gare pour le 1/3 du prix demandé par l'hôtel.

Je bascule en français pour dire comment nous avons pu observer une différence entre la gare de Lyon et St Pancras ou les autres gares à Londres. Personne dans la gare, pour donner un renseignement, une direction, etc... Une gare bondée mais personne de la SNCF. Impressionnant ! bref, même les enfants étaient surpris.

Puis, nous prenons notre TGV à l'heure pour St Jean-de-Maurienne où nous serons accueillis par mon beau-frère Philippe qui est le Manager de l'Hôtel où nous allons passer la semaine.
Météo de la semaine - soleil toute la journée avec températures variables.

Bien que nous ayons nos habitudes à Vars-les-Claux dans les Alpes du Sud,
nous avons choisi, cette année, de visiter ma soeur et son mari qui sont en charge de cet Hotel depuis 2 saisons seulement. 
Nous étions curieux de découvrir leur nouvel environnement.
Et nous devons reconnaître que nous avons été agréablement surpris.
C'est un hôtel familial dans un cadre absolument surperbe.
Nous chaussions les skis en partant de l'hotel, et déchaussions de la même manière puisque une gentille piste verte nous ramenait au pied de l'hôtel.
C'est un hôtel qui a une piscine extérieure couverte avec spa attenant à la piscine.
Je ne suis pas une femme-sirène, donc je peux me passer de la piscine sans problème
mais les enfants ont adoré, et beaucoup d'adultes en profitaient le soir après le ski .
Pour les personnes qui ne skient pas, 
des ballades en raquettes, ou autres activités sont prévues. 
Voilà pour l'hébergement. 
Quand au ski, je vous laisse découvrir en images la semaine qui a été la nôtre.

Sur la route du Tour (de France) que les cyclistes montent ou descendent en vélo.
Cette piste qui descend le Col de la Madeleine était un petit bonheur.
Ce que j'appelle du ski "plaisir".
On a juste à se laisser glisser.
Notre petit plaisir après les cours d'Elliot ou avant de redescendre
à l'Hotel .

Même les chiens de traîneau font partie intégrante du paysage. 
Que du bonheur !!!

Je pourrais continuer à vous charmer avec ces paysages immaculés, ce ciel bleu, et 
une neige fantastique. Le dernier jour, j'ai percuté un snowboard et me suis 
fais mal à l'épaule, mais je suis quand même prête à recommencer. 
Et vous ? A la neige ? Au soleil ? A la maison ?

SKI HOLIDAY in France (Alps)

Bonjour à toutes,

Février et sa tradition du ski...

Cette année, nous avons opté pour 

l'option ski loisirs-famille 

dans un hôtel géré par Noëlle (ma soeur) et Philippe (son mari)

Nous serons donc cette semaine à St François-Longchamps

(dans la Vallée de la Maurienne)

où la neige est abondante en ce moment. 

Mais, plus de détails à notre retour,

en attendant, 

bonnes vacances à toutes !

COTE JARDINS - What's the best option ?

Bonjour à tous et à toutes,

I am asking for help. 

In our home in Ré, there is some space alongside the wall in the terrace where 

there is a figuier and lots of bad green plants (weeds) which grow along. So, I asked a Garden Center to come and look at this space to have better plants and flowers.

My desires : Evergreen plants, with Hydrangeas
 or any other suggestions should be very helpful. 

I like Hydrangeas, and Buxus)

 but I have no idea if it is the right plant for the right place. 

Anyway, 

the garden Center gave me 3 options following my tastes. 

1 - Buxus

2 - Verveine de Buenos Aires

3 - Quercifolia blanches (I prefer the hydrangeas)

so with somes images from google

I tried to make some presentations, suggestions....

1 - Buxus + Verveine de Buenos Aires ?

2 - Buxus + Hydrangeas  ?

or 

3 - Buxus + Hydrangeas + Verveine de Buenos Aires ?

AS IT IS NOW ...

So I am asking you ? 

What do you prefer ?

HOME ATMOSPHERE with flowers

Good morning to you,

Finally, January is gone,

welcome to February and longest days...

I do not like January. 

So, few flowers to illuminate the living room. 

I like the game of the light and the shadow.

And yes, you can see my bicycle as I use it every day to go to school. 

And you, what is your best thing to illuminate your life when you feel down ?

Flowers ? shopping ? gardening ? knitting ?

COTE CUISINE - ARE YOU JAM OR MARMELADE ?

Good evening,

January already gone, 

and I had to make my marmalade 

before the Seville oranges gone. 

Only few weeks on the market, 

you have to be ready to get your pans out 

and your sharpe knife ... 

This year I took my recipe from  

"Waitrose"

Makes : 3 kg

Preparation : 45 minutes

Cook : 3 h

3kg Seville oranges

1 unwaxed lemon

2 x 1kg packets of preserving sugar

- 1 -

Wash and dry the oranges and the lemon thoroughly.

Pour 2 litres of cold water into a large pan.

Squeeze the oranges and lemon and add the juice to the water. 

Reserve the pips and orange rind, but discard the squeezed lemon.

- 2 -

Cut the oranges in half again and scrape the pith and pips into the centre of a large square of muslin. 

Cut the orange peel into strips, chunky for coarse cut and thinner for a fine shred

- 3 -

Add  to the pan and bring to the boil and ...

- 4 - 

 Then reduce the heat and simmer, uncovered, for 2 hours ... until 

the peel is very soft and the liquid reduced by about half.

- 5 - 

Add the Preserving sugar and stir over a low heat until dissolved.

Increase heat and boil rapidly until setting point is reached (takes about 15 min)

- 6 -

To test, spoon a little onto a chilled saucer.

Allow to cool .

- 7 -

Stir and pour into warm, clean jars. Jars that I put, in the dishwasher, to have them sterilized. 

I recycled one jar from Tipree ...

Here we are,

nice color, strong texture, and a lovely taste.

To finish, ask your little one to write the labels (TIP - glued on with milk)

they like it and it's so cute ...

I have to say, I like marmelade but I am more an apricot jam or raspberry jam than marmalade.

But, Mr R is a marmalade eater when he takes time to enjoy a breakfast.

ST PANCRAS RENAISSANCE HOTEL - LONDON

Good evening, 

That was yesterday, 

sunny day,

and no snow like today. 

I visited St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, 
originaly called Midland Grand Hotel 
surrounding  St Pancras train station.

I was very happy to discover this very old hotel (1873)
 which has just been renovated (2005-2011). 

The architect Georges Scott 

was influenced by the use of  bricks

 which he had witnessed first-hand  on his European travels and which at this time , 

in England, was being widely produced and being transported to all parts of the country by rail.

The extraordinary double staircase is a fantastic example of high-Victorian, gothic decoration. The ballustrading un wrought iron contains original gas fitting.

The fixtures and fitting throughout

the hotel were finished to the highest standards (original tiles on the floor).

This vaulted ceiling is painted with stars as well as the Virtues adn Heraldic arms of the Midland Railway

St Pancras Renaissance Hotel : it is 265 bedrooms and suites and 66 flats sold in leasehold in 3 weeks !

The staircase is also markedly wide by today's standards, the reason being that it allowed two ladies in bustles to pass.

Can you imagine yourself in this beautiful Hotel ?

RE - 50 SHADES OF GREEN ...

Hello,

When I was in France for Christmas, 

with my family,  

we enjoyed 

our sunny walks alongside the beach,

and through the small 

village where our house is. 

We took time to discover new path roads,

where I could take these photos ...

To protect the Island, 

there are lots of regulations and one of them is

the color of the shutters (volets in French) which must be green, 

with white walls.

Here is a link to a short TV documentary 

done in the Island about some typical, traditions houses.

The film has been done in our village of Ste Marie.
